Bordeaux Inspired, Washington Crafted

Matthews is a family owned and operated winery based in Woodinville, WA. We take our inspiration from the great wine blending techniques of Bordeaux and from the exceptional fruit that our state is producing. Our wines tip their hat to old world traditions, while embracing the energy and innovation of this ascendant wine region.Since 1992, Matthews has crafted red blends from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, and white wines exclusively from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. We work with many of the most iconic vineyards in Washington, honing our growing and blending processes to deliver wines of depth, complexity and verve.

We make wine with principles, and while we are inspired by Bordeaux, many of those principles come from our Washington heritage. Walk around our Estate and you’ll see—in our tasting room, our bed & breakfast, our organic farm—a deep respect for the land and people of our state and our local community. Whether it’s a special occasion or an everyday moment, count on our wines to be approachable, exciting and exceedingly fun to drink and share.

Aryn Morell

Aryn grew up in Western Washington and left to attend the University of Nevada Las Vegas, originally for the golf program but ended up studying Chemistry at the College of Sciences. Looking to continue that path to a career in Chemical Engineering, he spent a weekend in Napa Valley and was convinced by his brother that he should come to the Valley and experience the wine industry. After a few great meals and some great bottles of wine, Aryn began work in the wine industry of Napa Valley in late 2003. He spent time at Golden State Vintners, Edgewood Estates, Silver Oak and then went to work for a company that he personally assisted at wineries such as Joseph Phelps, Quintessa, Hartwell, Chimney Rock, Caldwell Vineyards, Vineyard 29, Chappellet, Rutherford Hill, Spring Mountain Winery, Stags Leap Winery, Turnbull, and countless others. This gave Aryn the opportunity to see first hand what were the important elements that are necessary for crafting superb wines.

In 2006, an opportunity opened up to move back to his home state, so he and his wife and young family came “back home”. His passion for taking Washington State grapes and creating world class wines began at Matthews Winery in Woodinville in 2007. Since that point, under Aryn's direction, Matthews has made some of Washington's highest rated Sauvignon Blancs and Bordeaux-style blends. Aryn continues to produce Washington State wines that are known for their expression of Washington State terroir, complexity and an elegance that continues to receive accolades from connoisseurs and consumers alike.

National Sales And Marketing Manager
Eric Swikard

Eric joined the Matthews family in 2011 and is responsible for Matthews and Tenor wine sales to wholesale and distribution accounts nationally.

Born and raised in San Diego, California, Eric grew to appreciate a taste for fresh cuisine and Napa-style wines. With a food and wine backbone, Eric decided to attend the New England Culinary Institute’s (N.E.C.I.’s) Hospitality & Restaurant Management program in Burlington, Vermont, and he graduated from the accelerated Bachelors program with nine other graduates.

Eric honed his skills in food and beverage and began to appreciate wines outside of Napa Valley. He had the rare opportunity to study under Dellie Rex, co-author of the acclaimed book "About Wine," who was the first to introduce him to the true potential of Washington wines.

After completing the N.E.C.I. program, Eric moved back to California to help open Decanter Restaurant & Wine Lounge in Rancho Santa Fe. Here, he worked under owner/sommelier Jayson Knack who encouraged Eric to pursue his passion for wine by attending the Court of Master Sommeliers introductory program, which he did.

In the fall of 2009, Eric moved to Seattle to work for one of Seattle’s top restaurateurs, Eric Banh of Monsoon Restaurants. He took the position of the Wine Director and received recognition for his wine program from the Washington Wine Commission. Shortly after, he joined the team at Matthews and has given the winery skills and expertise well beyond sales and marketing.
