Welcome to Champoux Vineyards

Matthews is excited to announce that Champoux Vineyards, located in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, will be featured in our wines for the very first time.

The reputation of Champoux makes it one of the top vineyard sites in Washington State, and arguably one of the top vineyard sites in the world. Their Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot have consistently produced many of the highest scoring Washington wines, including five perfect 100 point wines.

Champoux lies between 600-800 feet in elevation on fine sandy loam soils, allowing for great root development and extremely even vigor. It is located in Alderdale, Washington, a few miles north of the Columbia River. It's the perfect location for Bordeaux varietals.

Matthews wines are made exclusively from Bordeaux varietals. It is very exciting for our family to add Champoux to the list of incredible vineyards we already work with in Yakima Valley, Walla Walla Valley, Red Mountain, and the Royal Slope. The grapes from Champoux will be featured in most all Matthews wines, including the Claret, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cuvée and (of course) all of our Reserve-level red wines. Many of the grapes will come from one of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon sites in the entire state, planted in 1972.

As you have heard, our Reserve Wine Club is currently full. We have a waiting list for new members looking to join. Joining the list can be done on our website at MatthewsWinery.com

Here are some photos from our vineyard visit earlier this year with Dan Nickolaus, who manages Champoux for wineries such as Quiliceda Creek, Andrew Will, Woodward Canyon, and others.

As always, thanks for supporting our family owned and operated winery.
